Bagna Cauda...A Family Tradition

The table is set, we will soon begin the phenomena known as Bagna Cauda...

What is it, you ask?
Well it's an Italian dish similar to fondu.
It's ingredients include Oil, anchovies, garlic and
just at the end some heavy whipping cream or 1/2 & 1/2.
After simmering for several hours you serve it in crock pots to keep it warm and eat it by
dipping fresh veggies with crusty bread and of course WINE!

I wasn't sure about it at first, I'm not a huge fan of anchovies, or so I thought. Though, I was hesitant at first I quickly fell in love with this unique dish. The flavor was so complex that I have a really difficult time describing it! After the first bite, I was hooked!

I ate and drank to my hearts content.

I took the opportunity to try out a recipe for an herb, cheese Italian bread. Turned out to be quite scrumptious! Needless to say there was none left at the end of the night!

I am so glad I came to this family event because I was able to get to know the Meschi side of the family. Though I had met a few of them at weddings and such, I really didn't know who was who. It was fun to try and recite all their names. Though now, I'm not sure if I remember them all, it was fun.

My mother-in-law, Sally, purchased a birthday cake from a well known bakery in Aptos and so we had a belated celebration for Lucas and his Uncle Kevin (his twin, Steven, wasn't there).

All in all I had a wonderful time visiting with family and learning a family tradition.
